Publishing Quality Control Guidelines

These guidelines ensure that a system is in place to maintain objective, high quality, and up-to-date content in Hopkins branded health information publications.

Branded publications and websites and other branded projects must:

  1. follow JHM, SON or BSPH graphics and design guidelines;
  2. for Web-based projects hosted on individual school servers, adhere to the standards set by that school's Office of Marketing and Communications. Contact the appropriate Public Affairs Office before starting a Web project.
  3. for branded Web-based projects not hosted on the hopkinsmedicine.org server and for branded projects that are not Web-based, contact the JHM, SON or BSPH public affairs office for applicable standards;
  4. for all Web-based projects, abide by HON (Health on the Net) code of conduct, as of 2/01/03;
  5. include a written plan for oversight of the content by a designated individual or group within the responsible department, division, or administrative unit. In cases involving multiple departments or schools, the individual or group responsible for oversight of content will be designated by HIMG

For projects with broad impact, the initiators of the project should consider implementing a more formal system of peer review and/or editorial board oversight.  In some cases, HIMG may recommend that peer review and/or editorial board oversight be required.
