Graphic Standards

As with any publication with the Johns Hopkins name, divisions, departments, and offices within the Johns Hopkins Institutions should present a professional image in the materials they publish online. By using existing Web development resources, we will be able to present a unified, consistent front to our visitors while maintaining the individuality of each department and office. Ultimately, these guidelines are intended to promote creativity and individual style while maintaining the preeminent reputation of Johns Hopkins Institutions.

There is an enterprise-wide initiative in development that may affect any person who develops web sites within JHHS/JHUSOM. A content management system (CMS) is used on the hopkinsmedicine.org server and implemented by JHM Marketing and Communications. The CMS is available to all sites hosted on that server. It provides easy to use tools for web creation and maintenance while delivering a consistent look and feel across all JHM web sites.

The Bloomberg School of Public Health is currently using their own version of the same content management system for their site, http://www.jhsph.edu.  This is a good example of using a standard set of templates to maintain a consistent look and feel across a diverse site with multiple audiences. Contact the Office of Public Affairs for more information.

Moving forward, the content management system will be installed on additional servers across the Institution and will be available to sites hosted on those servers (such as www.jhu.edu).

For more information, visit the JHMCIS Web Guidelines developed by a committee of representatives from across the Johns Hopkins Institutions.
