Category IV Projects

If the health information project is proposed to be Hopkins branded and there is an outside business partner or investment arrangement, it is a Category IV project.

Category IV projects involve:

  • branding with the Hopkins name, logo, likenesses, and/or marks;
  • a business partnership with or investment by an outside entity;
  • they also may involve outside support such as unrestricted gifts or grants to cover operating expenses and/or the use of outside vendors providing contractual services;
  • and it is anticipated the project may generate revenue

Examples

  • Branded Web-based service that provides guidance on drug interactions, licensed to a pharmacy benefits management company.

Guidelines

BRANDED WEB projects on JH Servers:

  • Follow WEB publishing guidelines of respective school.

BRANDED WEB projects not on JH Servers:

For all Web-based projects:

Provide HIMG with a Written Content Management Plan:

Provide HIMG with a written plan explaining how content will be developed and who will be responsible for content oversight within the appropriate department, division, or administrative unit. In cases involving multiple schools, the individual or group responsible for oversight of content may be designated by HIMG.

Should a Category IV project involve multiple schools, departments, divisions, or administrative units, the proposal must identify–for HIMG review– the school or subdivision that will take responsibility for the project.

SUGGESTION: For projects with broad impact, the initiators of the project should consider implementing a more formal system of peer review and/or editorial board oversight.  In some cases, HIMG may recommend that peer review and/or editorial board oversight be required.

NOTE: For some Category IV projects, HIMG may require additional editorial review as described in the Publishing Quality Control Guidelines.

  • Obtain support of department, division, or administrative unit.
  • Email or letter on department letterhead to HIMG will do
  • Obtain HIMG approval if project involves multiple schools.
  • Ensure there is agreement concerning which party is responsible for the project (EG…HIMG Web site).
  • Obtain institutional legal review of outside contracts.
